Adapt dated legacy Yahoo! Entertainment sites onto a new publishing platform to modernize the front and backend user experience across all of Yahoo! Media properties.

The Project

As a global effort across Yahoo!’s verticals, I was part of a team to redesign the entertainment sites (movies, TV, omg! (celebrity) and shine (lifestyles)) to leverage a new backend publishing platform that utilized reusable components to allow for faster iterations to pages moving forward. What used to take development cycles to update, editorial teams could now update instantly. This design system, first created for Yahoo! News, needed to be adapted for entertainment users. Existing established entertainment sites needed to be translated to use these new modules and components needed to be created to better meet entertainment users needs. This is a still ongoing effort.

My Contribution

  • Translate pages of existing sites to use all new set of modules.
  • While migrating to new system, work to improve user experience and update site to better meet current needs of editors, business and end users while working within this new system.
  • Identify and layout any new features or functionality that was not existing in the system such as movie showtimes, omg! front page tiles, improved video playback in playlists, and more visually compelling pages overall.
  • Worked within an agile process to continue to update and improve experiences.
  • Collaborated closely with product managers, business leads, marketing,  editors, engineers and visual designers.
  • Continuously worked on review cycles with broader design teams across other Yahoo! verticals to ensure consistent adoption of this new platform and to communicate and leverage other teams improvements.
