Radio Experience

Redesign the Yahoo! Music radio player and website pages to better reflect the new business direction for streaming music.

The Project

With a business need to shut down the existing player and elegantly migrate existing users to a new Radio player within a short timeframe, Yahoo! Music needed to rebuild the radio section of the site to better coincide with the new streaming music strategy. Most considered it a downgrade in experience, but our team was able to leverage the project to finally incorporate the long desired need for music profile pages. We mitigated the situation by turning a loss in personalized radio for a small population of users into ‘my music’ pages to capture user ratings from across the site.

My Contribution

  • Understand technical limitations and boundaries around the new radio experience.
  • Identify and understand all areas of the site, and sites across the web that will be impacted by the change.
  • Work closely with product, engineering and design to push the experience yet keep it within the project limitations and tight schedule.
  • Offer interesting and meaningful ways to re-capture and display data that would otherwise be lost.
  • Main deliverable was detailed set of wireframes with specs.
